Meet Wilson!

From wilson's Parents:

"Wilson (named Leo at the time) was brought to Greenville Animal Care by Animal Control in August of 2018. His family never let him inside, neglected him & didn’t feed him so neighbors called to have him rescued. From what we were told, Animal Control threatened to fine the owners if they didn’t willingly surrender the poor pup. Only at the threat of a fine did they finally agree to surrender the dog who was later brought to the pound malnourished with flea & bug bites all over him. He was subjected to eating trash, leaves and anything he could find in his yard so he was frail. He was so thin you could tell it hurt him to sit down and move around. He had little energy but still was loving.

We found him on the Animal Care website and it was love at first site. He looked small but I didn’t realize the extent of his situation at the time. I sent his picture to my husband and asked him to go check him out after work. He liked him but told me his backstory and admitted he didn’t have much of a personality probably due to being weak. Once I got off work, we went back to Animal Care together and my heart melted. He was so abused & neglected my first thought was to get him out of the loud & chaotic shelter at any cost. He was very excited to see people so I knew it was a good sign and that he just needed some love and care. We thought since he was 1-2 years old at the time he would be potty trained and some social etiquette had been learned but he had never been inside or cared for so it was a learning curve but he caught on quickly!

We had to rename him because we already have a handsome rescue cat named Leo. Leo and our other cat Odin could immediately tell he was not well and loved on him. It was an instant connection.

Over the course of the next few weeks we gave him a lot of love while feeding him chicken, rice & eggs and just like that he gained over 20 pounds! His personality started to shine and he became a happy, playful & loving dog. Once he got to a safe weight of about 60 pounds we transitioned him to dog food.

While we were doing this photo shoot he was a little bit shy and unsure of the noises coming from the camera. He has come so far from this but he still doesn’t trust all humans unfortunately. Once he feels comfortable around you he is extremely friendly. He loves playing with other dogs, looking out our windows, going for rides and getting pets.

We couldn’t imagine a life without this pooch! He has brought so much love into our lives. We can sense he is so grateful for everything we have done as he is so appreciative and happy. We even got him tested and he is a mix of Chow, Lab & American Staffordshire Terrier. He has wonderful qualities of all of these breeds that we see daily. Rescuing an animal brings a joy that is unexplainable until you feel it first hand. We thank Greenville County Animal Care for all they do for animals and adopters alike!"
