Meet Violet!
From Violet's mom:
A few years ago, we were desperate to get a puppy, but we weren’t able to until we moved. As soon as we signed our lease, we began searching for rescue dogs on Petfinder. We moved to Colorado on September 14th and picked up Violet (formerly Piper) on September 30th.
Violet was saved from a high-kill shelter in Denver City, TX by Bounce Animal Rescue (based in Fort Collins, CO). She was brought to Colorado with her mom and 6 other littermates. She has been such a light in our lives ever since we welcomed her home and seeing her happy brings us so much joy. We wanted a dog who would be able to keep up on adventures and explore this beautiful state with us, and she has exceeded that expectation. She loves all outdoor activities and we take her along for all of them (hiking, swimming, skiing, camping, skating, etc).
When she neared the 10 month old mark, she started displaying more serious behavioral issues, which we definitely weren’t prepared for. We didn’t know what reactivity was before going through our training. From thinking we had everything under control, to realizing we had no idea what we were doing, our training journey has been a wild ride. We are so grateful for all the trainers who have given us the necessary guidance to work through the challenges.
After a very long year of defeating lows and rewarding highs, we’ve finally reached a place where we have a better handle on her reactivity. Violet is a more calm, confident, and neutral dog now that we have utilized a range of training methods. She looks to us for direction in situations where she is unsure, rather than trying to take matters into her own hands, and our relationship with her has grown exponentially over the past six months. Violet now lives a very fulfilled and structured life, where she has the methods to deal with her big girl emotions.
Despite her troubled past and onset of behavioral issues, she is loving, smart, spunky, and adventurous, and we love her unconditionally. You can follow along with our adventures and training journey @MountainGirlViolet on Instagram.
