Meet Romeo!

From Romeo's family:

S used to have two Shih Tzu’s and after one had passed away I had convinced my parents to “just go look” at the Miami-Dade humane society. My mother wasn’t interested in any large dogs, but since we were only looking around we went into that area anyways. Now usually that area is very loud with barking and jumping dogs, but there was one dog who just sat there in his bed and watched as potential families walked by. This had caught our attention and we immediately asked if we could have a room with him. Now, also consider that all the pitbulls in Miami-Dade are classified as American Bulldog Mixes so they don’t have to be put down since they’re illegal there. At the time, I guess you could say my family was very anti-pitbull for their representation in the media and if we had known his actual breed I don’t think we would have ever considered bringing him into our home. He came into a private room with us and he was the sweetest little thing. We had found it was his first day there and if we wanted to adopt him we’d have to put down our names and wait three days, for him to have his shots and procedures and of course to see if any owners come to claim him. So since we had so much time to think we just decided to do it. One we were home we were very on and off about what we were gonna do, but in the end went over to the shelter and picked him up. Then a few days later we take him to his first vet appointment in Miramar. The first thing we found out was his actual breed and we were shocked. We decided to keep him around and give him a chance, but were also very concerned for our one remaining shih tzu’s life. It’s funny to think back on how ignorant we were. With little time, he proved himself to be the sweetest, kindest dog we’ve ever owned. We named him Romeo for his very loving personality. Romeo had been an advocate for himself and has taught his family to appreciate his breed and has turned us into advocates for him and any other pitbull we come across.
