Meet Lacy!

From Lacy's Foster mom:

Lacy is a dog who is the walking example of forgiveness and love. She was born into a hoarder's house with over 60 dogs on the premises, all being kept in small crates and tiny outdoor runs. Thankfully, she and the others were rescued through a group effort of law enforcement departments and animal rescues. She was adopted soon afterward by individuals in Laramie. However, shortly after her adoption, she escaped from them. She was so fearful of people, it took Animal Control officers two weeks to catch her. Once captured, she was returned to the shelter, where her then-owners re-claimed her. Not two weeks later, she escaped again - this time with a very tight collar on, and dragging a leash behind her.

Despite the best efforts of law enforcement, animal rescues, and volunteer citizens to recapture her, because of how traumatized she had been, she evaded them for over a month and a half - surviving on whatever she could find on the prairie behind the Laramie Walmart. Finally, as a last-ditch effort, a specialty trap was brought it - thankfully, it worked!!

Upon capture, she was taken to the Animal Health Center for emergency care. She was found to have a fully fractured left femur, and once stable, had a plate and 12 screws placed in her leg. That's when she came into her foster mom's life, who vowed to her as she lay emaciated and broken in the back of her kennel, that no one would ever hurt her again.

Fast forward 10 months, and Lacy has transformed. While still very timid, Lacy is showing more and more of the goofy puppy that was buried underneath all of her trauma. Her favorite things are string cheese, sleeping on the couch, and her doggy foster brother. She also loves to watch and follow her kitty brothers around, but always maintains a respectful distance. She is ready to find her forever human, who will be someone that understands the patience, work, and love that a dog like her will require.
